Yeah have it all be custom and very in-dept, also we should find a way to tie this character into some plot line from another game. Also have the kid's back story shown how he had a tough life, also have him be an orphan with no friends and lives with his bestfriend. Your bestfriend isn't a rival, but the other gender character. The rival will be chosen (boy/girl) and customizable to some degree. The rival will also be a douchebag who constantly is just being a jerk. He at one point breaks your bike that was your fathers (you start with a bike until after the second gym), he occasionally works with the evil team, other things on the douche level.
